Age is included directly in the Mifflin–St Jeor equation used by this calculator. Because age is part of the predictive formula, changing the age input changes the estimated result when the other inputs remain constant.
Height is one of the variables included in the equation. The calculator accepts centimeters directly in metric mode or converts feet and inches into centimeters in US unit mode.
Body weight is another direct input in the predictive equation. Metric mode uses kilograms, while US mode converts pounds into kilograms before calculating the estimate.
A higher or lower BMR estimate should not automatically be interpreted as better or worse. The number reflects an estimated level of resting energy expenditure based on the variables used by the equation.
