Business Day Guide

Free Online Working Days Calculator

Our free working days calculator helps you determine how many business or work days fall between two dates. You can select recurring weekend days and add custom holiday dates that should be excluded.

This can be useful for project schedules, delivery estimates, office planning, contract timelines, employee scheduling and other date-based calculations.

What Are Working Days?

Working days are the days considered available for normal business or work activity under a particular schedule. The exact definition can vary by organization, location and industry.

For that reason, this calculator allows you to choose your own recurring weekend days rather than forcing one fixed workweek pattern.

How to Calculate Business Days Between Two Dates

To calculate business days, begin with the calendar dates in the selected range. Then remove recurring non-working weekdays such as weekends. Finally, remove any additional holiday dates that fall on otherwise eligible working days.

This calculator performs that process automatically according to the weekend and holiday settings you select.

Working Days vs Calendar Days

Calendar days include every date in a range, subject to whether the end date is included. Working days include only dates that pass your selected workday rules.

As a result, a period may contain many calendar days but fewer working days after recurring weekends and custom holidays are removed.

Why Weekend Settings Matter

Work schedules are not identical everywhere. Businesses, schools, government offices and organizations may follow different weekly schedules.

The custom weekend selector lets you define which weekdays should always be treated as non-working days for your calculation.

How Custom Holidays Are Calculated

You can manually add holiday dates that should not count as working days. The calculator checks whether each holiday falls inside the selected date range.

If a holiday already falls on one of your selected weekend days, it is not deducted twice. This helps avoid double-counting the same non-working date.

Calculate Estimated Working Hours

The calculator can also estimate total working hours. It multiplies the calculated number of working days by your selected number of working hours per day.

For example, 20 working days at 8 hours per day produces an estimated total of 160 working hours.

Common Uses for a Working Days Calculator

Working-day calculations can help with project timelines, service estimates, office schedules, employee planning, business deadlines, study plans and operational planning.

Always verify legal, contractual, banking or government deadlines against the official rules that apply to your situation.

Working Days Tip

For the most accurate result, select the correct recurring weekend days and manually add all relevant public holidays, bank holidays or company closure dates within your range.
