How to Use the Scientific Calculator

Type an expression or build it with the keys, then press equals. Brackets and powers are handled in the usual mathematical order, so you can write something like 2^3 + sqrt(16) × 5 and get 28.

Functions and constants

  • sin, cos, tan: trigonometric functions. Open the bracket, enter the angle and close it, for example sin(30).
  • √ (sqrt): square root, for example sqrt(144) = 12.
  • log: base-10 logarithm, so log(1000) = 3.
  • ln: natural logarithm (base e).
  • xy (^): raises a number to a power, for example 2^10 = 1024.
  • π: inserts the value of pi.

Degrees or radians

The DEG and RAD buttons choose the unit for sin, cos and tan. The calculator starts in degree mode, where sin(30) = 0.5. Switch to RAD when your angle is in radians, for example sin(π/2) = 1 in radian mode.

The percent key and remainders

Put % after a number to treat it as a percentage (50% means 0.5), so 80 × 25% = 20. Between two numbers it returns the remainder, so 17 % 5 = 2.

Memory and history

M+ and M- add or subtract the displayed value from memory, MR inserts the stored value and MC clears it. Your recent calculations stay in the history list, and Copy places the current result on your clipboard. Calculations run in your browser, so nothing you enter is uploaded.
